How to View and Convert MDI File to Other Formats?

When we use the office software (such as office 2003,2007,and so on), we often need to deal with MDI file which is developed from the TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) extension and is thus basically a tag-based graphics format. However it's difficult to view MDI as well as convert MDI to other formats when office software not be installed completely.

The usual solution is to install the MODI Writer (Microsoft Office Document Imaging Writer). It's disturbing that 'Microsoft Document Image Writer' feature is not installed by default with Office installed.

You have to Re-run the office installation files and install Microsoft Document Imaging Writer yourself. More worse, it is no longer available in Office 2010. When you send a MDI file to your friends or customers, they will be confused with it.

A professional software names 'MDI Converter' is to view and convert MDI files or any other image files. You need not install Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. With 'MDI Converter', we can easily convert MDI to PDF, MDI to JPG, MDI to TIFF, MDI to PNG, MDI to BMP, etc.

  • Open 'MDI Converter', and click the 'Open' button to open a MDI file. All pages will be shown as thumbnails in the left panel. Execute 'Zoom in', 'Zoom Out', 'Rotate' to view the selected page.
  • Click 'Export' button to convert current MDI file or current MDI page to PDF, TIFF, JPG, PNG, BMP. Wait for some seconds, the conversion will be finished. A converted file will be auto-saved.

With 'MDI Converter', we can also view multi-page TIFF files or other image formats. When click 'Open' button, please select the open type 'All supported image formats', then you can view TIFF file or JPG file, etc. Of course, the conversion is allowed.

File Description

High-resolution, tag-based graphics format developed from the TIFF format; used by Microsoft Office for saving scanned documents; may be turned into a Word (.DOC) document using OCR (optical character recognition) software.

MDI files are created and opened with Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI), which is included with Office XP, 2003, and 2007. Microsoft stopped including MODI with Office 2010, so you can't open MDI files in Office 2010.

NOTE: Saving documents created with Office Document Imaging in the .TIF format allows for better compatibility with other programs.
